Hi folks,
Do you know the difference between "quote" and "proverb"? There is a basic difference from them. In my opinion, that is:
- QUOTE: a phrase or a sentence from a book or a speech that belongs to a certain person you know, and you repeat into your speech or a piece of your writing. So, when you quote it, you should mention of the author.
- PROVERB: a short well-known statement that gives a advice something that is general true and is passed through generations, and ordinarily is different from many ethnics.
Yesterday, Ha sent to us a proverb that is quite an interesting and helpful advice: "A stitch in time saves nine.". What do it means? Do you think about this proverb? It's really a good advice for all of us about our behavior. I can tell its meaning as I understand. In the literal sense, everybody knows that if you sew up a hole when it's smaller, it takes you only 1 stitch, but if you hesitate or wait until the hole is bigger, it'll take you 10 stitches. So, you should sew up it in time. By the way, you don't waste your time as your money and your effort. By extension, the proverb warns us not to delay any important job, or it will get more time-consuming. For me, I think that we should get ourselves into the habit of organizing our jobs, and we will save our time, effort and even money.
There are many proverbs that you should read and explain their meanings. Try it! You can learn many things from them. The following proverbs are my favorite:
- Work has bitter root but sweet fruit.
- Better be sure than sorry.
- Do on the hills as you would do in the hall.
Read and enjoy!
